Tom Stoppard, 1937 – 2025
We are deeply saddened by the news of Tom Stoppard’s passing. What struck us most was his presence — warm, curious, and mischievous. He made everything more fun. We remember taking him around Moscow and marvelling at the delight he found in everything — and the mischief too, always the mischief.
Later, working with him on Shakespeare in Love, that same spark was there: a constant delight, quick, attentive, forever playful. He had that rare gift of using irony to convey warmth — the joke always included you, never excluded you. His generosity and wit were a joy to be near. His extraordinary contribution enriched the theatre, reminding everyone that art can be as humane as it is brilliant.
