ABC, on Life is a Dream
Written by William Shakespeare
In a version by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod
Performed in Spanish with surtitles
Lifelong friends, Valentine and Proteus fall for the same woman: Silvia, daughter of the Duke of Milan. Far from the lives (and people) they have left behind in Verona, a complex tale of passion and disguise unfolds as they navigate love, loyalties, bandits and a dog.
After their acclaimed Life is a Dream, Cheek by Jowl return to work with the same ensemble of actors on Los dos hidalgos de Verona. In Two Gentlemen of Verona the young Shakespeare sketches themes that would burst into flower in his later works.
Directed and designed by Artistic Directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, this marks Cheek by Jowl’s second co-production with the Compañia Nacional de Teatro Clásico and LAZONA Teatro, further solidifying the company’s relationship with Spanish artists and audiences in Europe and further abroad.
Co-produced by Cheek by Jowl, Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico (Spain) and LAZONA.
