A holiday message

Dear friends,

Thank you for being with us this year. Whether you have followed us, shared with us, dreamt with us, watched, listened, or supported, to all our dear friends, collaborators, actors, stage and technical management and crew… we cannot do the work we do without you. Thank you for keeping the theatre flame alive in spirit throughout this extremely difficult year.

This has been a year of dramatic change. The global pandemic has knocked many things out of orbit, and we have seen theatres reduced to empty spaces as the world became confined to their homes. And now, as we approach the end of a year in which we have been forced to measure our distance from one another, those things that many of us take for granted have been brought sharply into focus.

Live acting in front of live people gets more important every day. We infect each other with humanity. This act of communion feeds us, frankly starving in an increasingly commoditised and digitised world.

Is there a “most important moment” in theatre? Perhaps when we all assemble, the lights dim, we all hush and then an actor walks onto the stage. The moment just before, when everybody is united, miraculously – from that central moment all theatre derives its authority. And it is powerful. And perhaps it can save us.

We wish you a safe and peaceful festive period.

From Declan, Nick and Team CBJ x

To our partners and collaborators

A huge thanks to our partners who support us and always provide encouragement for the work that we do: to Arts Council England, the Barbican Theatre, the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre and to our friends and collaborators at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano and Les Gémeaux (Scène Nationale) in Sceaux for their continued belief and ongoing support.

We look forward to working with you and with all our dear partners in 2021.
