Macbeth
Produced by Cheek by Jowl in a co-production with barbicanbite10; Les Gémeaux/Sceaux/Scène Nationale; Koninklijke Schouwburg, The Hague; Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg; Théâtre du Nord, Lille and Théâtre de Namur/Centre dramatique by William Shakespeare Thursday 18 March – Saturday 10 April 2010 Press Night: Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 7pm Will Keen and Anastasia Hille return to Cheek by Jowl in the company's latest production. Macbeth tours internationally and comes as a co-production to the Barbican, where they are an Associate Company, from 18 March until 10 April 2010. Macbeth is the great tragedy of the imagination. A man and a woman, bound together in ambition, are destroyed in a welter of blood as Cheek by Jowl's ensemble conjures Shakespeare's world of witchcraft, ghosts and apparitions in an hallucinatory experience of sound and shadow. Cheek by Jowl is one of the country's foremost proponents of text based theatre. Donnellan and Ormerod's production pares the story back to its devastating heart, exposing Shakespeare's shocking insight into the cost of power. The cast is, as always, a mix of long standing Cheek by Jowl ensemble members and newcomers: David Caves, David Collings, Vincent Enderby, Jake Fairbrother, Nicholas Goode, Anastasia Hille, Kelly Hotten, Orlando James, Will Keen, Ryan Kiggell, Greg Kolpakchi and Edmund Wiseman. Sound Design is by Helen Atkinson and Owen Horsley is the Assistant Director. Anastasia Hille last performed for Cheek by Jowl in The Duchess of Malfi in 1995 ("Anastasia Hille is simply electrifying" The Independent) and Will Keen in The Changeling in 2006 ("This is a star performance" Sunday Times) For information and press tickets please contact Since 1981 Cheek by Jowl has produced international theatre in English, French and Russian, vividly interpreting classic and new texts in productions which place the actor at their centre. Founded by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the company has toured to over 300 cities in 40 countries. Box Office: 020 7638 8891 www.barbican.org.uk |
