Bolshoi's Romeo & Juliet (2004)
Added: July 07 2007
Three clips from the Bolshoi's controversial 2004 production of Romeo and Juliet, with Denis Savin and Maria Alexandrova.
The new version of the Shakespearean ballet was created by British theater director Declan Donnellan and Moldovan choreographer Radu Poklitaru. Instead of pointe shoes and tutus, performers wear modern dress and slippers; traditional pas de deux and pirouettes are replaced with angular jumps and kicks. The dancers break into laughs and screams.
