Barbican Weekend Workout with Cheek by Jowl.
Saturday and Sunday 27/28 March 2010

Owen Horsley, Declan Donnellan's long standing Assistant Director, will lead a two day practical workshop entitled 'A Way into Shakespeare'.

The weekend will explore Cheek by Jowl's approach to Shakespeare texts.

Using the play of Macbeth as starting point, Owen will lead sessions on verse, chorus work, responses to a space, approaches to storytelling and setting the scene.

25 participants who are training for, or interested in training for, a career in theatre will work with Owen and members of the Cheek by Jowl acting company over two full days with the opportunity to see a performance of Macbeth on Saturday night.

Owen Horsley Assistant Director Biography

Owen trained at Drama Centre London. He has worked with Cheek by Jowl since 2006 assisting Declan Donnellan on international touring productions of The Changeling, Cymbeline, Troilus and Cressida and Macbeth. For Cheek by Jowl he has run workshops in the UK and in Spain on Cheek by Jowl’s approach with a range of participants from young professionals to A level students. Owen is also Director of new theatre company Eyestrings Theatre (Edward II and In Bed With Messalina). Other theatre includes Romeo and Juliet (Love & Madness), and The Insect Play (Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh). Film includes: Suddenly.
