Young Directors and Designers Exhibition

In January 2009 Cheek by Jowl open an exhibition of work at the Barbican Centre exploring the collaborative relationship between young theatre directors and designers.

The exhibition is the culmination of Cheek by Jowl's intensive Summer School programme which aims to invest in emerging creative talent, and to encourage an actor-focused collaborative approach to direction and design.

The Summer School, which took place in September 2008, drew together eight promising, emerging professional directors and designers to work with Cheek by Jowl's Artistic Directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, and a group of professional actors.

The exhibition combines photography, moving image, audio recordings, testimonials, models and mannequins to explore the participants' new approaches to making theatre.
