International Summer School for Young Directors and Designers
1 – 6 September 2008

"The whole experience has produced a seismic shift in the method I use to work"

"I really do feel I've learnt something about myself and my process - I've come out of it feeling somehow 'unlocked'. I'm going to try to hold onto it."

In August 2007, for the very first time, Cheek by Jowl brought together a group of talented young directors and designers in one forum, to work with Declan Donnellan, Nick Ormerod and the Cheek by Jowl team on placing the actor and the ensemble at the heart of their work.

In September 2008 Cheek by Jowl will hold our second Summer School for young directors and designers which is being opened for the first time to international applicants.

4 directors and 4 designers will work in pairs to explore Cheek by Jowl's creative processes. Working with Artistic Directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, professional actors and other members of the Cheek by Jowl creative team, the summer school focuses on the director/designer relationship, actors and the ensemble through work on a classic text.

The Summer School will culminate with an exhibition of work, possibly in Spring 2009.

The Participants for 2008 are:
Directors:
Dan Bernard, Sarah Norman, Michael Oakley, Alexander Summers.
Designers: Katerina Agelopoulou, Maria Guirao, Lucy Minyo, George Moustakas.
